Milan-trained Mexican designer, Jose Isaias has been impressing me with his beautiful garments which left me in awe when I got to see him photographing his first collection. His innotive designs are so cutting edge and just simply incredible. I recently interviewed the lively young designer to get the inside scoop on his personal vision for his clothing lines.
Isaias is a very flexible designer, "I would never say no, I always say yes...even if it isn't my personal taste or style, I will always say yes." Isaias produces clothes for his signature line which he describes as "more artistic and less ready-to-wear"; they're different, they are more powerful than that...and they mean more. His clothes are a combination of artistic creations and minilism; they are a modern and innovative twist to classic clothes and come from heartfelt inspirations. Isaias told me "my inspirations are seasonal and current" he said, they come from a range of different themes and emotions, moods that inspire me in some way to create something beautiful.
'What kind of theme would you say you go for?' I asked. "Do I have a vision? Yes. It's more avant-garde...I like to give my clothes a futuristic twist, I want to create alternative and artistic clothes which I target at a more underground audience- I guess you could say it's a little dark".
Isaias told me although he does design for both men and women, he started with women. When I asked him if he always wanted to design he told me "Yes! At first I dreamt of being an architect when I was young, but I wanted to do something more for people and I always liked clothes- especially women's! I remember when I decided I wanted to dedicate myself to fashion and become a designer...it's when I opened one day a Vanity Fair magazine and I saw the Balenciaga runway 2006/7 winter collection and it was so beautiful and I knew from that moment that I had to design...I do style also for men but I do prefer styling for women; with women you can be more creative and develop it further".
Jose Isaias is currently looking for the right opportunity to apply his creativity throughout Europe and America, although says the rich selection of different fabrics in Mexico City is intensely tempting.
He will keep designing his lines for his signature line, with a range of dresses to die for.
"The pricing of my clothes depends, it can go from 70-200 euro, it depends on the garment...I have actually sold a dress already to a very happy client". After seeing Isaias' gowns up-close I am pretty tempted to splurge myself...take a look at more of his garments on his website www.joseisaias87.blogspot.com
his promotional video showcasing Jose Isaias and collaborator Darwina Slioa's designs shows the mood Isaias goes for in his collections...
