High street picks: River Island

How to dress without spending a fortune, there are a number of high-street shops internationally where you can pick up items that look great without spending a fortune. Today I took a look at the River Island store, now although River island isn't normally my style they did have a few things I liked.

What I absolutley loved in this season's collection are the palazzo pants, so I selected my favourite pair and decided what else the store had to offer to make a complete outfit.

Since the trousers are high-waisted a matching crop top looks really cute, but as this gives a lot of colour and impact you want to go really light on the accessories so the outfit isn't over-powering so it doesn't look tacky or like a costume for a retro party...

If you're going for sunglasses, a simple pair or aviators will do, you want something in a plain colour which is minimal and doesn't overpower the outfit. In terms of bags, again something small and simple is great. For shoes, sandal heels look really cool, but little pumps or flat sandals will also look great as long as they are plain and minimal so it doesn't distract from the patterned trousers.

In terms of jewelry, you want small things that aren't too blingy. I would personally go for a small pair of plain hoops or studs and a very simple necklace. River Island have very bold jewlery, I chose a wooden bangle which looks neutral but nice with the outfit. The earthy colour gives a nice summer vibe too. And if you want a bit of glitz I chose a small sparkly bracelet to decorate the other wrist.
